Mink Coat

Have you been looking for a really good Mink Coat but don't exactly know how to look for one or what information to look up? Well below you will find some great information on how to look for a good quality Mink Coat and which ones to look for too.

A Guide to Buying Mink Fur Garments

Purchasing a mink fur jacket or other garment can represent a significant investment.  It's worthwhile, since mink fur creates a striking and elegant look that most people love, but it's important to remember that you can't get that look by buying just any fur.  It's important to shop around and do your research so that you can find a high-quality coat that you will enjoy for years.  Here are a few tips for finding the right mink fur garment.

Buy the Best Quality That You Can

A common mistake that people make when buying fur is opting for quantity over quality, or trying to save money on a garment that is clearly under priced.  The most important reason to worry about quality is longevity.  Fur coats are notorious for lasting for years if they are properly maintained, but with a lower quality coat, this will be a much more difficult feat to achieve.  You can think of the initial price difference as an investment against future expenses associated with cleaning, patching, and even buying a new coat.  Another reason to care about quality is the actual appearance of the garment.  If you don't have much experience with owning or buying fur, the difference may not be apparent to you, but it will likely stand out to other people.

Check the Interior and Fur

When you are looking at any mink coat, you should thoroughly examine the fur as well as the interior.  You want to make sure that the fur is supple, smooth, even, and in two layers, with a short insulating layer underneath and a longer, showy layer on top.  You should look at the inside of the coat to inspect the stitching on the back of the fur.  Typically, the bottom of a fur coat liner is not sown to the furs, so this should be an easy task.  Check that the stitches are clean and that the strips of fur are even — if this isn't the case, the coat is not well made.  You should also inquire about the amount of leather that was used in the coat.  The highest quality coats will have minimal or no leather.  Lower quality coats will have more leather, and stripes may even be visible on the exterior of the coat.

Check the Tags
While you have the coat in your hands, you should also check the quality and origin of the furs.  In general, European and North American furs are going to be the best; for mink in particular, Denmark, Finland, and the United States are countries that produce higher quality furs.  Countries like China will produce mink coats that are less expensive but also lower quality.  You should also look at the pelt label, which will show whether your coat met the standards of a high-quality producer such as the North American Fur Association or the American Legend Mink Cooperative.

With these tips in mind, you should have a better idea of what to look for in a mink fur coat.  During your search, you should visit a few different furriers to compare your options and get feedback from different employees.  Ultimately, the key to finding a mink jacket that you can own and love for years is taking time to find a quality garment and make a careful final choice.
